Valentine’s Day is all about showing your special someone how you feel about them and Americans are willing to open up their wallets as well as their hearts.
Americans are expected to spend a record $20.7 billion on Valentine’s Day this year, a 6 percent increase from 2018, according to a survey conducted for the National Retail Federation.
The almost 7,400 people surveyed plan to spend $161.96 per person, up 13 percent from 2018.
What will they shell out for?
These are all items that can be purchased at lots of small businesses across Delaware.
Men tend to spend more than women — $229.54 on average compared with $99.77.
Those ages 35-44 will spend the most — an average of $279.14. Those ages 25-34 are the second-largest spenders at an average $239.07.
And Valentine’s Day gift givers don’t want to leave out their pets.
Consumers are expected to spend $886 million on their favorite dog, cat or goldfish this Valentine’s Day.
