Think innovation, think Delaware.

The state is one of the most innovative in the U.S., a new report from WalletHub, a financial services website, says, ranking Delaware No. 9 overall among the 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Delaware’s ranking puts it ahead of neighboring New Jersey (No. 12) and Pennsylvania (No. 29).

The report considered 24 metrics. Delaware placed in the top 10 in six categories, according to data provided by WalletHub:

• #3 in jobs in new companies
• #4 in share of technology companies
• #5 in R&D spending per capita
• #7 in share of STEM professionals
• #7 in average Internet speed
• #7 in R&D intensity, which is defined as the ratio of total R&D activity to a state’s gross domestic product (GDP).
