  and benefits of the 8(a) federal government contracting program.\n\n\
 n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nThe 8(a) Business Development Program
  helps small\, disadvantaged businesses compete in the marketplace. Th
 e Program offers contractual assistance\, financial assistance and man
 agement and technical assistance to firms that are owned and controlle
 d at least 51% by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals.
  Under this program\, the federal government limits competition for ce
 rtain contracts to participating businesses in order to help provide a
  level playing field for small disadvantaged owned businesses. The fed
 eral government's goal is to award at least five percent of all federa
 l contracting dollars to small disadvantaged businesses each year.\n\n
