Report: Delaware a top 10 state for Black women business owners

Delaware ranks among the 10 best states in the U.S. for Black women to own a business, according to a report from Merchant Maverick, a website that reviews services and software for small business.

Delaware ranks #6 based on eight measures including the percentage of Black women who own their own business (Delaware ranks #2) and the percentage of employees working for firms led by Black women (Delaware ranks #6).

You can find the report here.

The Merchant Maverick report is not the only one to point out that Delaware is a hub for Black women entrepreneurs.

A 2018 Paychex report found that Delaware led the nation in the number of businesses owned by Black women at 20.8 businesses per 100,000 residents.

The Office of Supplier Diversity, which is part of the Division of Small Business, is a valuable resource for connecting minority-owned, women-owned and veteran-owned businesses with contracting opportunities with the state of Delaware.
