Delaware gets high marks for Internet speed

Delaware is number three in the nation for fastest Internet speed in the U.S., according to an analysis by HighSpeedInternet.com, a website that posts consumer reviews of Internet Service Providers.

The average Internet speed in Delaware is 59.08 megabits per second (mbps), the analysis said. That’s after only New Jersey (59.58 mbps) and Maryland (65.02 mbps).

Alaska had the slowest Internet speed (17.03 mbps).

Delaware has been working to bring high-speed broadband access to areas of rural Kent and Sussex counties that lack it.

In May, Governor John Carney announced a partnership between the Delaware Department of Technology and Innovation and Bloomsurf LLC to provide affordable, broadband access to rural Kent and Sussex.

The project includes upgrading 14 cellular towers. It is expected to be completed in fourth quarter 2020.

An article in Technical.ly Delaware explored how this will benefit Delaware farmers.
