Sigma Data Systems Inc. in Newark is facing the same problem other businesses large and small are dealing with in the age of coronavirus: how to change business practices to keep things safe for customers and employees.
The IT services support company serves clients whose business is essential, even during these difficult times.
So, it made a number of changes including having as many employees work from home, as possible.
Those whose jobs require them to go to customer locations follow rules on social distancing and are outfitted with gloves, masks and goggles, company president Mike Poirier said.
Visits are also scheduled for off-hours if the client wants.
And for employees who have to come into the office, conference room meetings are a thing of the past.
Instead, staffers stay in their individual offices and meet through a video conference call.
The company’s cleaning service comes regularly to wipe down all the surfaces in the common areas, including door knobs. Employees have access to sprays and wipes to sanitize their work areas.
