Big Oyster Brewery named one of the fastest growing craft breweries in the U.S.

There’s some Delaware small business flavor among the U.S.’s fastest growing craft breweries.

Big Oyster Brewery in Lewes comes in at No. 2 on the Brewers Association’s list of fastest growing small and independent craft brewers, released this week.

The 50 breweries on the list produced a total of 170,000 barrels in 2018, up from 70,000 in 2017, according to a press release from the Boulder, Colo.-based Brewers Association, which represents the nation’s small and independent craft brewers.

“Even as market competition continues to increase, these small and independent breweries and brewpubs demonstrate there are still growth opportunities across a diverse set of regions and business models,” Bart Watson, the Brewers Association’s chief economist, said in the release.

Big Oyster Brewery is part of a thriving craft beverage industry in Delaware, which had an economic impact of $318 million or almost $457 per Delawarean in 2016, according to the Brewers Association.

Big Oyster is also one of more than 30 stops on the Delaware Beer, Wine & Spirits Trail.

Craft beverage fans can access the Beer, Wine & Spirits Trail by downloading the Delaware on Tap mobile app, which is available for free in the Apple App Store and from Google Play.
