As part of National Small Business Week, Barclays US Consumer Bank hosted a pitch competition and expo last week at which small business owners enrolled in West End Neighborhood House’s Launcher entrepreneur program sold their products and competed for prize money.
Delaware Division of Small Business Director Damian DeStefano was one of the judges for the competition at Barclays in Wilmington.
Five entrepreneurs are each receiving $1,000 to invest in their business. They will also receive mentoring and coaching from Barclays employees.
“Through the Launcher Entrpreneurship Program and other initiatives, Barclays is providing vital support that helps nurture and grow small businesses in the Delaware area,” DSB Director DeStefano said in a news release. “Small businesses are a huge economic driver to our community. They revitalize our neighborhoods and grow our local economy, and these resources are incredibly valuable to help them thrive.”
“The Launcher Entrepreneurship Program at West End Neighborhood House provides the critical support entrepreneurs need to pursue their dreams of becoming small business owners,” Nancy Parnella, director of business cards at Barclays, said in the release. “Barclays is proud to support our community and provide business owners of all sizes the resources they need to succeed.”
West End Neighborhood House offers the Launcher program at locations in Wilmington (in English or Spanish), Claymont and Dover.
Classes will begin in September.
