Delaware Department of Agriculture adopts new rules affecting produce farmers

If you’re a Delaware produce farmer, you’ll want to take note of new rules issued recently by the Delaware Department of Agriculture.

Delaware farms that grow produce are required to register with the Delaware Department of Agriculture under the new regulations, which also give DDA personnel the right to inspect, take samples from or review records of any farm or facility that grows, harvests, packs or holds produce for human consumption, according to a press release from the Department of Agriculture.

The regulations are intended to enforce compliance with the Produce Safety Rule in the federal Food Safety Modernization Act aimed at preventing microbial contamination and reducing the spread of food-borne illnesses in the U.S. food supply.

Read the Department of Agriculture press release , or get more details about the new regulations, including compliance dates and when inspections start.
