A California-based maker of fresh, human-quality dog food plans to open a production kitchen in New Castle County that will employ up to 50 people.
The 21,000 square-foot facility will be Irvine, California-based JustFoodForDogs’ first kitchen on the East Coast and serve the company’s growing list of retail locations including stores planned for New York and Boston, as well online sales. The kitchen is expected to produce about 30,000 pounds of food per day.
JustFoodForDogs will invest $2 million to build the kitchen, whose annual payroll is estimated at $2.24 million.
The Council on Development Finance on Monday voted to recommend the company be awarded a $170,000 performance-based grant from the Delaware Strategic Fund.
“JustFoodForDogs” choosing Delaware reflects our state’s reputation for welcoming innovative businesses of all sizes, as well as Delaware’s solid experience and expertise in the food industry,” Governor John Carney said in a release. “We are proud to be the first East Coat kitchen and we’re excited that their presence will create new jobs in New Castle County.”
