4 ideas for bringing your small business into the digital era

4 taleaways on using technology in your small business

Delaware Technical Community College held its 10th annual Kent County Economic Summit on Tuesday.

The event included a panel discussion on “The Digital Transformation in Business.”

Delaware Tourism Office Director Liz Keller was one of the panelists. The others were Sean Mace, vice president and chief operating officer, Eden Hill Medical Center; Don Chupp, CEO and president, Fireside Partners and Justin Smith, assistant director of information technology, Del-One Federal Credit Union.

Here are 4 takeaways from the discussion.

  1. Travelers are using the Internet to plan their vacations, Keller said. They’re looking at their friends’ Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest photos for vacation ideas. They’re checking reviews on sites like TripAdvisor and Yelp. And, they’re booking their travel online. The Delaware Tourism Office has responded, by among other things, rolling out its Delaware on Tap mobile application rather than a paper passport for keeping track of locations visited on the Delaware Beer, Wine & Spirits Trail.
  2. Doctor’s offices are using technology to make patient records accessible to patients through online patient portals, Mace said.
  3. Del-One uses technology in a number of ways, including ATM machines that allow you to reach a live teller if you have a question, Smith said.
  4. Don’t assume anything you post on social media is private, regardless of your privacy settings, Chupp said.
