Kent County to provide additional cash to its EDGE Grant winners

Here’s another reason for small businesses from Kent County to apply for a Division of Small Business EDGE Grant.

EDGE Grant winners from Kent County will get up to an additional $10,000 to use for their business under a measure approved recently by Kent County Levy Court.

Commissioners OK’d awarding $10,000 to each Kent County-based business that wins an EDGE Grant in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) category. $5,000 would go to each Kent County-based winner in the Entrepreneur category.

“By making this money available, our commissioners recognize the importance of this novel state initiative which will help growing small businesses in Kent County,” said Linda Parkowski, executive director of the Kent Economic Partnership.

“It’s a great thing that Kent County is providing a new incentive to help small businesses in the county,” said Damian DeStefano, director of the Delaware Division of Small Business. “Along with the State EDGE Grants, these things will only help to accelerate the growth of new companies in the area.”

The Delaware Division of Small Business developed the EDGE Grants program to support early stage Delaware-based companies by providing funding to help them grow.

The program provides a matching grant of up to $100,000 for STEM companies and up to $50,000 for other companies.

Eight finalists competed for five spots in each category in a competition on Aug. 13 and 14 at Del Tech in Dover.

The winners are scheduled to be announced in September.

The next round of EDGE Grant applications opens in September.
