Delaware State Chamber: Back to Work: The Case for Upscaling Our Workforce

Date & Time:
Thursday, June 4, 2020

Location:

,
Details:

The need to train people from minimum wage, low-paying jobs to higher wage, in-demand jobs is not a new concept. Low-wage workers are already among the most impacted by the COVID-19 crisis. The pandemic’s disruption to businesses resulted in major cutbacks and bankruptcies with a more than 14% unemployment rate in Delaware.

Because of this, workforce development is more important now than ever. The single best thing we can do as a state is move people off unemployment and into careers with a trajectory and a pathway to success.

There are known labor shortages in industries like health care, construction/trades, and information technology. Workers given new opportunities to develop skills for in-demand careers will be the best-positioned when the economic recovery begins.

Join us as we host a webinar on upskilling our workforce with Delaware’s Secretary of Labor Cerron Cade and Ron Painter, president & CEO of the National Association of Workforce Boards. Our speakers will lay out the current situation in our state and nationally as well as programs that could be implemented now to significantly improve the quality of life for Delaware’s workers and their families.
