About this Organization

The USDA is the federal department of the United States that is tasked with overseeing food, agriculture, natural resources, rural development, nutrition, and related issues based on public policy, the best available science, and effective management. Made up of twenty nine agencies and offices with 100,000 employees, the USDA supplies capital and resources to American farmers, ranchers, and businesses in rural areas.


Programs

Beginning Farmers loans provide credit opportunities to farmers who have been in operations for less than ten years.
This program allows for companies working in the biofuels, renewable chemicals, and biobased product manufacturing sectors to obtain loans for up to $250 million to support new technologies.
Available to for-profit businesses and individuals, this program increases the availability of private credit by guaranteeing loans.
This loan allows farmers to purchase or enlarge a farm, construct a new building, improve pre-existing infrastructure, or invest in water conservation
Direct Operating Loans allow farmers to purchase general farm operating expenses, including livestock, equipment, insurance, farm chemicals, etc
The EMP allows U.S. businesses to promote their agricultural exports to countries that have market-oriented economies through technical assistance and market research.
The Broadband Program supplies loans and loan guarantees to cover the costs of construction, improvement, or acquisition of facilities and equipment needed to provide service at the broadband lending speed in eligible rural areas.
The FMD Program helps create export markets for U.S. agricultural products by partnering with U.S. agricultural producers and processors
The IRP provides intermediaries that re-lend to businesses in rural communities with 1% low-interest loans.
Microloans are designed to assist beginning farmers/ farmers who specialize in niche markets by having more flexible guidelines and requirements.
These loans support the participation of minority and women farmers by targeting a portion of its guaranteed farm ownership and operating loan funds to buy and operate a farm or ranch.
QSP enables processors and manufacturers to share samples of their agricultural products with international markets by covering transportation and marketing costs.
The Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant program provides zero-interest loans for rural projects through local utility organizations, which they, in turn, pass through to local businesses
This program provides agricultural produces and rural small businesses with guaranteed loan financing and grant funding to make energy efficiency improvements.
The Socially Disadvantaged Groups Grant program is to provide technical assistance to socially-disadvantaged groups through cooperatives and Cooperative Development Centers.
The Technical Assistance program provides resources to help food hubs, businesses which distribute and market locally-produced foods, improve their financial performance.
This mentor networking group was established to allow women across the country connect with other female leaders in agriculture.
