Overview:
The Delaware Division of Small Business is offering a Summer 2026 Internship Program designed to provide meaningful, hands-on experience for students or recent graduates interested in public service, economic development, marketing, communications, or finance.
We are hiring two paid interns from June through August to work up to 29 hours per week at our Dover office. Interns will contribute directly to real-world projects and gain valuable insight into state government operations and Delaware’s business and tourism sectors.
Available Positions:
1. Business Policy Intern
Reports to: Anastasia Jackson, Business Policy Manager Location: Dover, DE (in-person) Responsibilities:
- Assist in researching and analyzing small business policy issues, including identifying barriers to growth and summarizing findings for internal use.
- Support coordination of Delaware On Main Street initiatives by tracking program progress and reinvestment statistics across 18 local programs, preparing materials, and assisting with quarterly meetings through agenda development, presentation creation, and partner communications.
- Participate in meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders, taking notes and following up on action items.
- Assist with event planning and outreach efforts to promote Division programs and strengthen relationships with community partners.
- Conduct background research on best practices from other states or organizations to inform Division policy and program design.
- Provide general administrative and project support to ensure smooth coordination across initiatives and teams.
Qualifications:
- Excellent writing and editing skills
- Interest in business and government policy
- Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Salesforce is a plus
2. Business Finance Intern
Reports to: Jory Moore, Business Finance Director Location: Dover, DE (in-person) Responsibilities:
- Assist in drafting, reviewing, and updating internal policies and standard operating procedures for Business Finance programs.
- Conduct research on best practices in government finance, lending programs, and compliance to inform policy development.
- Support the documentation and organization of workflows, ensuring clarity and consistency across programs.
- Collaborate with team members to identify gaps or inefficiencies in current processes and recommend improvements.
- Help prepare internal guidance materials, templates, and reference documents for staff use.
- Provide project support for Business Finance initiatives, including tracking timelines, compiling data, and coordinating deliverables.
Qualifications:
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Interest in public finance, grant programs, or data systems
- Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with Salesforce preferred
- Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion
Internship Details:
- Up to 29 hours per week, flexible around academic schedules
- Paid hourly (rate is $20/hr)
